The weekly collection

​primarily functions as the main source of income for funding essential parish operations, ministries, and charitable work. It is also seen as an integral part of the Mass liturgy and a practical expression of Christian stewardship. 

Practical and Operational Needs

The weekly collection (often called the offertory) is the "paycheck" for the parish, funding its daily existence and outreach. These funds cover: 

• Operating Expenses: Essential utilities (electricity, water, heating/cooling), insurance, and supplies.

• Maintenance and Repairs: Upkeep and maintenance of the physical church buildings, grounds, and facilities.

• Salaries: Compensation for priests, deacons, lay staff, and administrative personnel.

• Ministries and Programs: Funding for various parish activities, including religious education, youth groups, music ministry, and community events.
